Death Comes for the Archbishop

Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather

“Death Comes for the Archbishop” took me back to the red hills, arroyos and deserts of the American West, in the mid 19th century. Willa Cather’s tale tells of Father Jean Marie Latour, spreading his faith, despite scandalous priests, lawless villains and loneliness. His relationship with Father Vaillant reminds us of the value of simple companionship and friendship. Cather weaves beauty and meaning into a simple story with relatively little plot. I truly enjoyed this American classic!
