This book focuses on the time immediately before and after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and how President Roosevelt led America at the time.  Some of the events in the hours immediately after the attack are glossed over in most history books, but Gillon goes into greater detail about how the White House reacted.  Such simple things as dealing with the press corps, increasing the protection of the President, and even the construction of the now famous “Date which will live in infamy speech.

If you are looking for a military treatise on the tactics of the attack then this is not the book for you.  This is a solid political look at an unprecedented time in American history.  You get good background into the lives of the key figures, including FDR.  I recommend this book to anyone.

This is an Amish story about Cara.  She leaves the big city with her daughter to return to the Amish way of life and tries to find a relative only to find out she died.  Ephraim found Cara in his barn and others in the community found her stealing things.  He let her stay in his house while he stayed in his workshop and is shunned for it.  There is a surprise ending!

Lena teaches at an Amish school.  Someone dies and Lena has a counselor visit.  Later, she finds a friend get help for his drinking.  Lena is scorned and loses her job.  A man who used to fight for her stops.  She falls in love with a man she can’t have.  This book has an amazing ending.

Gideon was in love with Mattie.  He breaks off their relationship when he finds out he has leukemia.  She moves away, but three years later she returns home because he mother is ill.  Mattie runs into Gideon.  This is a love story with problems and solutions.

Monah runs the library and her boyfriend Mike is a cop.  Someone dies in the library and the police find out she was poisoned.  Monah and Casey try to help Mike solve the mystery as a second person has been poisoned there.
